about asexual!peter

i NEED to pour my heart into this because i have been thinking about it for a while now.

i am all for asexual representation in marauders’s fanfic. i have literally read every single wolfstar fic where one of them is ace. and THAT is the problem.

peter is always written as either Straight or Ace ( sometimes aro/ace ) and that is great ! give our community some representation ! i love it !

but here is the other thing.

as i said before, i have read every single fic where wolfstar is asexual. and that is because there are very rare. i can count them on one hand without running out of fingers. they are great and well written, but they are very very rare

which is surprising. but you know what strikes me ?

never ONCE have i seen peter described as attractive or beautiful. not ONCE.

on the contrary sirius and remus ( and james ) are always described as attractive. ALWAYS.

and i don’t know about you, but seeing the ugly guy always written as ace and the sexy guys always written as allosexual doesn’t fill my asexual heart with love and validity AT ALL.

sometimes i brush it off. sometimes i feel like the fandom is telling me that only people that are too ugly to be fucked can be asexual.

so what can you, fellow fanfic writer, do to bring actual asexual positivity in your fic ? well that is very easy !

first of all, i can’t force you to make james, sirius or remus asexual. but remember that they could be.

then, try to describe peter as beautiful or attractive. i knooooow, you hate him because of what he had done so he doesn’t deserve to be attractive. but consider it.

you can also try to include hints that remus, sirius and james could technically be ace/aro. sometimes just a small mention can count as good representation. for example : “i don’t feel ready to have sex with you.” “oh sorry, are you demisexual or something ?” “no, i am attracted to you, i’m just not ready.”

or for aromantism : “i don’t really date.” “you’re aro ?” “no, that’s not the reason.”

see ? easy !

i’m not saying every fic should include that. i’m not saying we should stop writing peter as ace/aro. i am merely saying we can do better.

so we all know remus and sirius were both bookish nerds.

and one day they were quietly reading back to back on moony’s bed and it was really really nice. but then hogwart’s bells rang and it was dinner time. remus stood up, but sirius didn’t, eyes still focused on his book.

with a sweet smile, remus tried to get his boyfriend’s attention. “hey pads, it’s dinner time.”

sirius looked at him, rather confused about why he was suddenly in the common room instead of the countryside he and the book characters were just moments ago. then his sense of reality came back to him. “oh. no i’m not going.”

“pads,” remus sighed “you need to eat, remember ? basic human needs, all that ?”

sirius rolled his eyes and pouted, which he always did when he played annoyed. remus found it extremely adorable. “but moony, i can’t just leave the book !”

remus tried to hide his grin, and failed. “come on love, we’ll eat really fast so we can go back to this as soon as possible.”

“no moony you don’t understand !” sirius whined. “the book… it’s really sad !”

remus raised an eyebrow. “what’s your point ?”

“well if i stop reading” sirius explained as if it was obvious, “the characters will keep being in pain until i get back. i have to read until the next happy moment, and then i will be able to close the book and eat. but for now…”

and he got back to his book. remus was a blushing mess. damn that boy was still more surprising everyday.

“alright” he whispered. he sat on his bed so sirius could lean on his torso, then wrapped his arms around the small boy’s waist and kissed his forehead. sirius sighed happily and turned his page.

neither of the boys went to dinner that night.

because as much as i enjoy 5th 6th and 7th marauders’s years their younger years were just as cute
  • james and sirius arguing to choose their bed in first year and starting a pillow fight, that peter joins, and remus watches, laughing his arse off
  • remus accidently blowing up his cauldron in potions and peter helping him to fix it because he has noticed remus can’t afford new school stuffs
  • james discovering peter is very good at chess and making a point in becoming better than him at it ( goal never reached )
  • sirius trying to play quidditch with james and falling off his broom and ending up crying even if he was barely two feets off the ground. remus had to bring him to mrs. pomfrey. james ending up playing with peter
  • the boys playing “never have i ever” ( without alcohol because they are twelve ) sirius admitting he has already kissed a girl, the boys tickling him until he says her name
  • sirius slowly learning how to express physical affection until he becomes the biggest cuddler in hogwarts
  • remus using muggle tricks to pull up pranks on the other marauders
  • THE THREE OTHER BOYS MEETING REGULUS NEVER LET THAT BE FORGOTTEN
  • the boys having a chocolate feast in their dorm when sirius receives a letter from home or peter is getting bullied
  • peter shoving a pie in the face of a girl who told him he ate too much, marauders cheering in the background
  • james getting in the quidditch team
  • remus coming out as trans when his friends discoveres he’s a werewolf because for the first time of his life he wants to trust people
  • james starting to notice lily and becoming clumsy everytime he’s around her
  • remus being super friend with lily and james being like “how does he do it ?? how does he manage to talk around her ???”
  • marauders getting drunk for the first time, james falling asleep immediatly, peter starting to dance and sirius drunkenly confessing he’s been questioning his gender ever since he learnt remus was trans then hugging him so hard he can’t move
  • remus telling sirius about non-binary genders, sirius discovering genderfluidity and the joy of pronouns change
  • remus watching sirius’s face light up the first time he calls her a “she” and how her face light up when she smiles and oh shit he might have a tiny crush on her
  • peter getting in the quidditch team as well in fourth year because he is surprinsingly good at it
  • the marauders being only fourteen but already caring about each other like a family

one of the funniest thing in the marauders fandom is to watch people trying to imagine what young peter pettigrew was like

“okay so what do we know about him ?”

“he betrayed his friends”

“well then obviously he must have been a terrible person since the very beggining. what else ?”

“he… was a bit fat ?”

“okay so food was all he loved in life. good.”

“… that’s it ? no more characterization ?”

“nah, asshole who loves food, that’s all we need”

james, year 5 : hey padfoot, moony, do you guys know whe- OH MERLIN MY EYES ! MY POOR EYES ! OH MY GOD PLEASE PUT SOME CLOTHES ON AND THEN OBLIVIATE ME PLEASE ! OH MERLIN

james, year 7 : hey padfoot, moony, do you know – merlin, please stop moaning for a sec – do you know where my transfiguration notes are ?
