about sirius/james brotp : a list of unorganized thoughts

before the sorting ceremony, even if they knew each other since barely half an hour, sirius made james swore he won’t stop talking to him if he ends up in slytherin
they think they have invented everything. like “what do you mean remus we didn’t invent drinking games in the dorm ? excuse you !”
they have the most complicated secret hand shake ever which includes singing and rock paper scissor.
sirius had always said james should give up on lily because he didn’t like to see his brother hurt, but he was the first to notice lily was warming up to him and wasn’t hating him as much as before, and he started to play matchmaker.
james is doing the exact same thing with sirius and remus since fucking day one. he forced them to settle in the beds next to each other.
they try to finish each other’s sentences and fail all the freaking time.
they also always ask “are you thinking what i’m thinking ?” and end up thinking about something completely different and make a mess
sirius started the gryffindor cheerleader team. he was the only member but didn’t care and performed before every match anyway to cheer on his bro
try and tell me everyone didn’t believe they were a couple.

and now with the angst.
james knew since year 2 about sirius’s home situation, and he always knew it would end up like that. he had already asked his parents countless times if they would adopt him if he needed
and when it finally happened, sirius slept in james’s bed for the rest of the holidays. the only exceptions were the times remus visited and james gave them some couple privacy
when james and lily went to their first date, sirius was sincerly crying because he was scared james would leave him now he had someone else important in his life. it took two hours to remus to comfort him.
during the war, sirius would burst into the potter’s home whenever it was too much for him
and when they went into hiding, sirius cried for three days. literally.

of
october
he felt like his mind was blank and all he could think about was to kill peter. it was the same thought who occupied him most of the twelve years in azkaban – that and his remus who was alone and vulnerable.

remus figured out it was time he told his friends.
after all, they had been completly acceptant about his lycanthropy when they had found out one year ago, so why not about that ?
so he decided he would tell them, and he felt confident about their reactions.
it happened friday evening, and they were working on the map, when he cleared his throat and asked them if they could listen to him for a second.
the marauders shifted in “confidence position”, which meant all sitted on the bed of the one who wanted to talk, james holding him by the shoulder.
he started to be very nervous, but when he saw sirius comforting grin, he started to talk :
“guys, i know it probobly doesn’t matter to you all, but i wanted you to know that i’m transgender.”
he feeled better as soon as he said it. but as he glanced at the marauders, he realized they are all frozen in shock and his enthiusiasm dies in his stomach.
no one says anything for a minute, and remus breaks down and starts to ask them why they aren’t saying anything and if they hate for this, because if he is not at all insecure about it he is afraid his friends will throw him out of the dorm.
but james laughes a bit and says “no, moony, i’m sorry, sorry if we scared you. it’s just that…”
and he hugs remus very hard and announce “i’m trans too.”
and remus just stares at him and he is too surprised to do anything so he just hugs him back and laughes a bit because what the hell is this coincidence ?
but they are interrumpted by peter who whispered “you gotta be kidding me…”
and james turns to him and asks him if anything’s wrong with that, slightly aggresive. but peter just opens his mouth and shouts “me. fucking. too.”
and this time they all burst out lauging because this is crazy, but so cool.
so james turns to sirius and says “look at that, sirius, you’re the only cis in the room.”
and sirius blushes and mumbles “well… actually…” and he joins what will be remembered as the Super Trans Hug of Third Year
so the marauders are officially all trans, and you can’t expect them to just ignore this.
first, there are the puns.
a monday night in the dorm : “remus can you help me with my trans-figuration homeworks ?” “sorry pete i already have a trans-lation to do in ancient runes” “any one can name me three muggles means of trans-port ? it’s for muggles studies”
and those are the good ones
because everytime james is back from quidditch practice, he is greeted by “go take a shower, james, you smell like trans-piration !”
and of course it doesn’t stop with the puns.
that won’t be very marauder.
that means that when lily told james not to be a dick, sirius bursted in from nowhere and exclaimed “oh honey i can assure you there is no dick here”
and then walk around the castle with james yelling that no one here’s a dick
he still refers to it sometimes. he is way too proud of it, according to remus.
but of course trans marauders also mean that there will be a “punishment prank” everytime a pure blood will use sirius’s dead name or the wrong pronouns
but only after a Special Night Of Comfort Against Dysphoria, involving hot chocolate and stupid games and embarassing stories and soppy comfort lines.
it’s during those nights they practiced binding charms together and learned how to prepare an hormonal potion
and they always little references to their transgenderism in public, but noboby understands what they mean and is very confused
for example : there is a reason the marauders started to call sirius “pads” and it’s not the short for “padfoot”
basically trans marauders being super supportive of each other and really cute.

6 years old james who tells his parents he is actually a boy. they think it is just a joke or a game first, but after some time they realize he is very serious and asks him if he wants to change his pronouns. 6 years old james happily agrees.
7 years old james who chooses his new name and throws away all his dresses because even if boys can wear dresses too he hates it and feels like they are wrong on him
8 years old james who pulls a very special prank on his grandma after she misgendered him and used his dead name and didn’t apologize. the prank involved fish, a handbad and a lot of eggs.
9 years old james who is very glad because his parents have officially changed his name and his dead name is now completely forgotten
10 years old james who starts to worry that he’ll have to explain to an entire school he’s not a girl bc he is starting to get more and more misgendered by strangers ( in shops for exemple ) and he knows there are a lot of transphobe out there
11 years old james who is getting to hogwarts and cross the path of one rather chubby boy who called him a girl, but noticed the hurt in his eyes and immediatly asked for the correct pronouns and apologized, before to offer him a chocolate frog. and that is how james and peter became friends. later that day he will get equally positive reactions fro the oher guys in the boy dorm he lives in
12 years old who first learns hexes with sirius to “punish” bigots, with the help of their quiet and pacifist friend remus who is a bit too enthusiastic about this whole thing
13 years old james who starts to notice the pretty red hair girl in their year and feels something is different with her, like she is not the same as anyone he ever met. also 13 years old james potter who receives a binder for christmas because puberty is starting to do her job. pomfrey starts to tlk to him about some hormones potion who might help him. he is not sure if he wants to, though and he declines the offer for now
14 years old james who had his first period, and he excepted them to be very disphoric and awful but really they are alright and he doesn’t mind them. he feels very at ease with his body andmaybe he still faces predjudices sometimes but most of people just doesn’t care about what’s in between his legs ( well… not in a bigoted way at least, bc he definitely has the attention of many students ) including his beautiful lily, and he shouldn’t be so relieved of it bc it is only basic human decency but he still is.
15 years old james who is becoming an animagus and sees his is a stag and not a doe and when he changes back he is crying, because even if he is very confident in his validity and masculinity it feels so right and so good
16 years old james who is called transphobic slurs by snivellus and he is bout to hex the shit out of him but lily is faster and she just punches him in the face and yells at him. after five good minutes of yelling she turns to james and apologizes for fighting his fight and has an entire conversation with him without insulting him.
17 years old james who is dating lily and they are about to have sex for the first time and she warns him that actually she is trans too, but it’s less “seeable” than for james. james’s reaction is genuine excitement bc that’s another thing they have in common
18 years old james who is getting married with the love of his life in a perfect tuxedo and lily is gorgeous in her wedding dress and the world is in flames but they don’t care right now because they are in love and married
19 years old james who feels nauseous and hasn’t has his period in a while for some reason and holy fuck lily we are in trouble
20 years old james who is pregnant and proud but the world is cruel to men with an uterus and a baby in it. when his pregnancy starts to become more noticeable, he goes less and less outside and starts to feel confined. they finally go into hiding and he can’t go out at all. but finally he gives birth to a beautiful child who’s all he wants in life and is beautiful and he’s crying bc this feels so good
21 years old james who is the proud dad of little harry and have an happy married life with lily and he knows that war will be over soon and then we will have that forever in peace

teenage james potter who starts to realize he never even thought about a person in this way
teenage james potter who freaks out bc wizarding sex education is completely heteronormative and stupid
teenage james potter who doesn’t know what to do and tell the marauders about it, and listen to peter telling him about asexuality ( bc pete’s parents were the most tolerant in the world, fight me on this )
teenage james potter who is relieved that this is a thing, and he is probably not alone in hogwarts, but also a tiny bit scared bc not anyone is as tolerant as the marauders
teenage james potter who embraces his sexual orientation and wears only purple, white, gray and black for weeks
teenage james potter who comes out to lily in year 6, and she understands he was really in love with her and he didn’t just find her hot, obviously
so of course teenage lily evans who starts to fall in love with this stupid boy
( and they finally starts to date in seventh year, and they cuddle all the time bc james fucking love that )

you know what ? james is the only marauder i never saw headcanon-ed as ace.

I would say people just like the whole “cishet friend who doesn’t get queer jokes” but i saw him headcanon-ed as bi or pan quite often.

so be prepared for a loooot of posts about queer james potter to come bc it is time to repair this injustice.

the marauders’ favorite clothes

obviously sirius’ is his leather jacket. i really like the hc that it was remus who bought him for his birthday, but that’s not the only reason. it’s the very solid proof of his punkrockness and rebellion. he would have tons of pins, from bands and against discrimination ( not only blood predjudices but also sexism, homophobia, racism, etc… ). once james spilled his pumpkin juice on it and sirius fucking cried.

remus’s is not ( surprise ! ) a jumper. it’s his old gryffindor scarf. of course the guys call him a nerd when he says that, but it’s true. it’s the symbol of his humanity. it’s a normal item, that everyone has, and therefore makes him feel normal. it’s also the reminder that despite the discriminative laws, he was able to go to hogwarts and find friends.

peter’s is his acdc’s tshirt that he got at a concert he went with sirius. neither james nor remus could go so they had a good time together, and peter didn’t feel like he was less of a marauder than the others.

and james’s is, of fucking course, his quidditch uniform. he secretely wears it on weekend, when no one is watching. in seventh year, he learns that lily secretely loves it too and he starts wearing it just for her.

headcanon that when sirius started to make up, he tried to convince the other marauders to try it to.

so peter didn’t really like the feeling of having something on his face. so he doesn’t do it usually, but if sirius wants to test something he will be willing to be the victim. also dark lipstick suits him quite well.

remus isn’t a great fan of make-up, and he won’t ever wear some on a normal day, but for parties and important occasions he likes to borrow some of his boyfriend’s stuffs and have fun ( sirius is really really appreciative of that and sometimes throws off parties just to see how pretty his moony is ). what suits remus the most is pale natural eyeshadow bc he has the prettiest eyes.

and james. james is so in love with make-up. he loves to have colours on his face and painted nails. he also completely sucks at it so sirius has to do it for him. when they do it, they sit on sirius’s bed and giggle while talking about their crush.

the marauders’s favorite tv shows

remus : okay he’s a superwholock kind of guy and we all know it. he communicates via obscure references and gets mad when people don’t get them. he is super fan of complex scenarios and once managed to solve a mystery from sherlock. bc we all know he’s a nerd.

sirius : he likes supernatural and loves to watch it with his moony. he not-so-secretely adore friends ( fight me on this ) and his fav is joey. he watches loads of sitcoms and is actually the biggest shipper on earth. he also cries whenever something even slightly sad happens.

james : of course james is all about detective shows. the ones he likes are for the biggest part pretty bad and the marauders always make fun of it. his fav show is x files though.

lily : she loves simple comedy stuffs like the simpsons. she enjoys a most serious show once in a while but her heart belongs with these. her only exception is orange is the new black.

peter : peter has terrible taste since he is a terrible person. we don’t talk about him.
