For you, of course! ❤
“Hi! Remus! Do you know if these books are any good?”Remus looks up to see the familiar wild hair, glasses, and sunny grin of the bloke that comes into the shop every Thursday. “Hello, James. What do you mean, are they any good?”
He wonders where James’ boyfriend is today. The aloof, irritating bloke who always interrupts James when he stops to chat with Remus, throwing his leather clad arm around James’ shoulders and throwing confusing smirks Remus’ way.
James shrugs, pushing a stack of books across the counter. “You know, are they accurate? I don’t want to read a bunch of outdated or prejudiced crap.”
Remus looks down at the stack of books. They’re all about asexuality. He smiles as he shuffles through the titles. “These are all great choices. We don’t stock any aro-phobic or ace-phobic literature.” He takes a deep breath, keeping his eyes down. “Not on my watch.”
He sneaks a peak up at James, who is beaming. “Brilliant! Sirius’ll be pleased.” He clears his throat. “Er, he just sorted some things out, you know, and I want to make sure I understand everything properly.”
Remus concentrates hard on not letting his smile wilt. Sirius is the boyfriend’s name, he remembers. “That’s… that’s really nice. He’s lucky, to have such a supportive boyfriend.”
James’ eyes widen in confusion for a moment before he bursts into laughter. “You- no! No, no, no, Sirius and I aren’t dating.” A warm flare of hope shoots through Remus for a moment, but it disappears quickly as James shudders, making a disgusted face. “I’d never date someone like him.”
“Oh.” Remus grits his teeth, but he can’t stop his smile from falling. He presses his lips together as he re-stacks the books on the counter.
“Shit!” Remus looks up, startled at James’ outburst. James is ruffling his hair and wrinkling his forehead in distress. “I didn’t mean- that’s not what I meant at all!”
Remus shrugs in what he hope is a casual manner. “It’s fine.”
“No, it’s not.” James drops a hand to grab Remus’ as he stares at him earnestly. “I didn’t mean the ace stuff, I only meant- well, you’ve met him. Sirius is my brother, and I love him, but he’s a complete git.”
Remus looks down at their hands, resting together on the counter. He looks back up to see James blushing like mad, a hopeful look on his face.
Remus nods his head solemnly. “Yes, I see what you mean about Sirius. I’d never date someone like him either.” He smirks as he moves his hand to lace his fingers through James’.
“Of course, that’s not to say I wouldn’t be open to dating other complete gits instead.”
