here’s one thing I don’t understand about Hogwarts:

how the fuck does the prefect system work?

like okay, we know they are chosen in year 5. they do it at least until the end of year 6 (unclear whether or not the prefects remain in year 7, but I’m gonna go with no because NEWTs) they are two prefects by house, a boy and a girl

and then… does every 5th year group have prefects, or is it one every two year? are there four prefects per house? I’ll go with yes, because Molly mentions being upset the Fred and George aren’t prefect, and they’re just a year above Ron

but if they are 4 prefects, why aren’t the other two ever mentioned? Hermione complained all the time about Ron not doing his share of the work, but were the other two just off somewhere and never helped? who are they???

anyway. i don’t understand the system, but if I did: those two other prefects really weren’t doing their share huh

i feel like no one on this goddamn website realizes that

the reason why there are only 5 guys and 3 girls in gryffindor in harry’s year is that all of the students were born during or right after a war

people dont have as many kids during a war. kids die during a war.

i can bet you that in the marauders era there was 10 or maybe even 15 gryffindor boys in their year. the wizarding community was probably way bigger at the time.

so everytime i see a hc about “the fifth guy who shared a dorm with them” im always a bit put of bc… maybe there had a dorm to themselves and there was another one with 5 other kid or something. maybe there was 2 or 3 other guys there ( although lets all admit the first one seems more conveniant for fanfics ).

the wizarding community doesnt have a fixed number of kids in each house and this number is certainly not the same a few years before a war and right after

Technology in Hogwarts

  • each house has its own wifi that was magically expended to cover the entire castle
  • there’s that ravenclaw muggleborn who knows everything about computers and can fix yours in five minutes ( she accepts sweets as a payment )
  • group chat for different classes and houses
  • a social network for students only where you can share everything you do
  • special wizarding websites about spells and potions, but also magical cooking or just to post your beautiful moving pictures
  • a muggleborn boy seeing all these pictures and commentating “gifs. you basically invented magical gifs.”
  • the staf having troubles finding ways to introduce ekleticety – or whatever it’s called – in the castle so a group of students work together on a battery charging spell
  • about spotify
  • the ravenclaws are the one who use it the most. they put calming music or ASMR on when they work or read, listen to their favorite songs when they’re bored or looking for inspiration, making playlists about their favorite fictional characters… but also when ravenclaw girls are together alone in their dorm they WILL put on their favorite music and dance for hours ( hum hum, @tarranzeiguane and @unchatsurlestoits )
  • the gryffindors are obviously throwing the best dance parties ever and everyone knows it. they also love a good all karaoke
  • the slytherins love their headphones to isolate themselves when they are plotting against the world or to calm their nerves when they are feeling bad. also they will fight you on their musical tastes because everyone knows that the beatles were better than the stones kevin get over it
  • the hufflepuffs love shared playlists for all occasions. to this day, the house spirit playlist has 236 songs. there is also a special one where every puff, as they leave hogwarts, leave their one favorite song. wonderwall by oasis was added 53 times.
  • THE WIZARDING YOUTUBE
  • DIY magical haircare, wizardrock covers, cute nifflers videos, you name it
  • and obviously movies and tv shows
  • the gryffindors discovering Brooklyn Nine Nine and loosing their shit
  • a slytherin seeing a tarantino and working on the first wizarding movie
  • typing homeworks and getting annoyed because how can the autocorrect not knows the word “theastral” ?
  • making friends in wizarding schools all over the world
  • basically a mixture of extreme confusion and a lot of fun
  • because just
  • wizarding technology

( feel free to add more )

mental disorders at hogwarts = pure hell

tw : mentions of mental disorders ( obviously ) such as eating disorders and anxiety, and bullying

i’m not the first one to point that out, but kids with mental disorders must have a very hard time at hogwarts.

like, first, there is the problem of privacy : apart from a broom cupboard, there isn’t a lot of places you can go and make sure no one will bother you when things are just too much and you need to calm down for a minute ( during a panic attack, for example, but also when you are tired of all those efforts ) HELL

and kids with social anxiety ? you are around other people 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. imagine how awful this would be. classes with twenty other people, meals in a great room with everyone at the same time all the time, nights in a dorm with three or four other people all the times, weekends in the park where everyone goes. HELL

and eating disorders. just. fucking eating disorders. meals where there is huge amount of food everywhere around you, and not the healthiest one, from the description in the books. everyone watching you because you haven’t eaten whatever is in your plate. HELL

you have ocd ? welcome in hogwarts, the castle where everything moves all the time ! stairs, armours, paintings : nothing stays where it supposed to be ! enjoy ! HELL

adhd or add ? same issue. how are you ever suppose to focus on anything when there is always something to distract you ? have you seen the classrooms ? full of objects and portraits and notes and distractions ! and it’s like that all the time. HELL

and there are several kinds of disorders with these symptomes, but if you have troubles dealing with strong emotions, i’d like to remind that hogwarts is the place with all the drama and bullying ( seriously, even the teachers do that *cough* snape *cough* ). so good luck avoiding it. HELL

not-always-a-mental-disorder but same thing if you have issues with how you look, the bullying castle is here for you too. i would like to remind everyone that snape made fun of hermione’s teeth, causing her to run away in tears. so just imagine for someone with more severe complexes. HELL

so, to make it short :

HAVING A MENTAL DISORDER IN HOGWARTS = HELL

have a good day.

imagine if the full moon happened on september the first the year remus lupin went to hogwarts. despite all the healing charms, he can’t take the train and have to go the day after with floo powder. he is sorted alone in dumbledore ’s office and no one applauses when the hat announces his house. he joins a dorm where three strangers are already settled in. they are asking questions, and even though the nurse is here and they have planned an excuse, they already know something is different with him. he expects them to stay away from the weird kid.

but instead, they try to make him feel comfortable, ask if he is okay with the bed that’s left or if he wants to switch and offer him sweets. they tell him the dumbest jokes and he laughs so much he forgets why he felt bad.

and for the first time since the attack, remus lupin has friends.
