brain : okay so you’re writing a non binary character who gets misgenred as a man passed on their physical appearance. your main character should probably either assume he/him pronouns and get corrected quickly, or you could establish that he asks everyone he meets their pronouns to be sure…
me : he’s gonna be able to magically guess the correct pronouns to use
brain : … is it an established power people have in this au?
me : no, but get this : my non binary ass does whatever xe wants

i dont know what GP means, but i assume it’s a sort of mental health professional? if it is, then this is medical abuse. @nevertrustadoctorwho has a lot of examples of such behaviours, if you want to feel less lonely? anyway, it was wrong of them to say this. you really do have a serious issue.
can you try to meet with another therapist? i would reccomend to at least check out a crisis line.
does anyone else have advices? i will admit i dont know enough to help you as much as you deserve
Hey anon – as a medical professional I can say your GP is a dipshit and they should not be seeing patients if they’re going to act like that. That’s beyond unethical, it’s reckless and extremely harmful.
And hey, it sounds like you’re dealing with some serious apathy at the moment, and it may surprise you (or it doesn’t? Not sure how much you’ve looked into it) to know that that is a cardinal symptom of depression. Most people think of the overwhelming sadness, but in reality apathy is just as common, and can be extraordinarily debilitating, because people tend not to be taken as seriously by medical professionals, or they themselves don’t think their condition is as serious as it is.
You may be also experiencing things related to a “functional shift”, where you’ll find your sleep and eating habits may have changed (specifically you may find it hard to stay asleep when you do fall asleep? Wake up at 3 am and can’t get back to sleep, just kinda stare into the void for hours?)
These are all common with depression (major depressive disorder and other conditions where depressive states are part of the clinical syndrome).
Anyone on a crisis line will KNOW these things (and if they don’t, fuck them, honestly). Your GP should also know this, but they’re obviously as useful as cactus as toilet paper.
So, here’s my suggestion: Get yourself to a professional other than your GP. Explain you have extreme apathy and you think it may be related to depression (if you can call attention to symptoms of the functional shift, that will also be very helpful). Enquire about meds. Meds can be extraordinarily helpful in getting you back to a place where things like motivation to do something/anything and not being existentially exhausted 100% of the time might become a reality. That’s the thing here I want to emphasize – depression is largely very treatable. You have a very good chance that you can feel much, much better. This may temporary.
I know with apathy this’ll be extraordinarily difficult, but try and push through this ONE objective. Tell your support system (family, close friends, anyone hey) that you’re dealing with this (good work for reaching out on tumblr, even!), and they can help you do things like call around and find someone to see you. I don’t practice in the US or UK, so odds are we aren’t on the same system and I might not know best who to contact or how to go about it.
If you run into another medical professional who’s a complete piece of shit, please don’t let that keep you from continuing to seek out help (I know it’s exhausting, I know, but honestly, it’s worth it if you can find one of us who can prescribe and see you and actually get you to a better place). I’ve seen so many people (my friends, patients, my loved ones) literally have medication save their lives – but it sometimes takes some perseverance to get there.
On behalf of medics everywhere, I apologise for this really crap behaviour by one of my colleagues. In my work, I know I will never, ever speak to a patient like that, and I have made it a serious mission of mine to take patient’s needs seriously, whether they’re cardiac, orthopaedic or psychological.
If all else fails, you’re welcome to jump into my inbox if you have any more questions. I might take a while to answer, but I will answer eventually, and I’m always keen to help explain things like meds or symptoms, because most doctors don’t have the time to do that (or they don’t care).
All my best, anon. <3.
@jk-destroyed-our-best-gay-ships can you please make sure your anon sees this! Thank you!

yes but like dude call/text a crisis line/trusted friend and get yourself a therapy appointment. this is NOT normal and you need help. i swear you might feel like “it’s not a big deal since i wont actually do it” but it is.
www.suicidestop.com has a masterlist of crisis textline for all over the world. please visit their website and get help. you wont be taking up their time or anything, it’s their job to do this. you need it. and of you can, please send me confirmation once you’ve done it.
