I see a lot of posts on how the female villians in HP like Dolores Umbridge and Petunia Dursley are full-on, irredeemably evil, which is fair enough. I certainly have no interest in justifying their shitty behavior.

But I also see endless content delving into the motivations and rationalizations for male villains like Snape, Voldemort, and Peter. They get detailed, in-depth analysis, even to the point of twisting them into sympathetic and romantic characters.

And there are many reasons for this, but one of them is sexism, and we should at least acknowledge that.
