that said i think they kinda missed the point of wormtail by making him so obviously repugnant. wasn’t half the point of wormtail that people who you trusted could do bad things not because they were inherently evil or anything, just because they made choices that were bad or got in over their heads

my new scholar year resolution is to comment more on art i reblog and fics i read. i’m a bit ashamed to admit that when i notice a fic already have “enough” comments, i skip on commenting myself, but no more! i will now become a good citizen of the fandoms!

I see a lot of posts on how the female villians in HP like Dolores Umbridge and Petunia Dursley are full-on, irredeemably evil, which is fair enough. I certainly have no interest in justifying their shitty behavior.

But I also see endless content delving into the motivations and rationalizations for male villains like Snape, Voldemort, and Peter. They get detailed, in-depth analysis, even to the point of twisting them into sympathetic and romantic characters.

And there are many reasons for this, but one of them is sexism, and we should at least acknowledge that.
