you can still write fanfic even when english isn’t your first language.

1)

don’t worry about typos or grammar errors. native speakers typo and make grammar errors all the time. that’s what beta readers are for.

2) practice makes perfect. practice your english.

3) if you’re worried you won’t be able to put your plot into words because you’re not experienced, find someone to brainstorm with. find an alpha reader to read along as you write and to talk about it with you.

4) if you feel alone or like an outsider or like you have to try twice as hard, find someone else who writes fic and whose first language isn’t english. trust me, there are SO MANY fanfic authors who aren’t native speakers. SO. MANY.

(heck, if you’re looking for someone like that – hmu, let’s talk about your fic. i want you to write it. seriously, message me.)

5) people whose first language is anything but english probably grew up reading their country’s literature. non-american/english literature is different both in plot and style. NEW PLOTS AND DIFFERENT STYLES ARE ALWAYS WELCOME with the amount of fic that’s being produced.

6) the base of any kind of writing skill is reading. i’m gonna go ahead and say you’ve read a lot of fics written in english. you’re already halfway there.

7) native speakers struggle with recognition and self-doubt as much as you do. they feel like their writing is not good enough too. it doesn’t depend on anyone’s language skill; writers are just like that.

TL;DR you can still participate in all fandom events from tropefests to big bangs. it’s totally possible. besides, if i can do it, so can you.

WRITE YOUR FIC. ♥♥♥

This is all extremely true ❤

this is smth i struggle with but PLEASE dont let that stop you and be proud of how much english you already know

i mean between all the modern AUs and the Canon Divergence we as a fandom produce, voldemort must be feeling so neglected. poor boy. i’ll have to include him in one of my fics one day

you haven’t been to the rare pair part of the fandom

tom riddle is quite frequently mentioned in fics don’t you worry

oh no i definitely know that

but like… outside of that. even when fics need villains we often pick random death eaters over him. he doesnt really get to shine as a villain

my fanfic writer positivity post gained so much notes suddenly? and some blogs i look up to that are in completely different fandoms are reblogging it too and i’m like “o_o no it’s me who is supposed to be inspired by you”

anyway it feels great and makes me wanna write even more positivity posts
