me as a writer: obsessed with being original, constantly worried that ill copy another artist by accident, i can’t use that phrase i saw someone use it on may 12th, 2014 and

me as a reader: happily reads 2349460283 different versions of the exact same plot

not even different versions tbh

i’ld gladly reread a good fic 492942 times

the One True Writer Problem: writing

i mean hurt/comfort is by far my favorite genre, but for fuck’s sake i need h/c fics where one’s issues aren’t magically fixed by their significant other. and also where it’s just not “the hurt and then the comfort”. i need the relapses, the mistakes, the set backs, the “why is healing so long”. and also moments where said s.o has their own problem and can’t help as well as before, or just dont know what to do. and also fics where the person who is hurting actively works to feel better and acnowledge that they are the ones who did the hard work. and fics where a friend is more helpful than a lover. and a fic where the comforting character isn’t always available, practically or emotionally, to help.

because i get that sometimes you need a simple fic where someone hurts and is saved, i need it too sometimes, but i also really need the more realistic fics where it isn’t so easy but the character succeeds anyway.

Remus goes through a great deal of trouble to make himself non-threatening, both as a man and as a werewolf, whether people know what he is or not. The majority of the modifiers to his person or actions in the books are things like warm, mild, and calm. I’ve seen somewhere that the phrase most paired with him is ‘Lupin smiled.’ He is always patient, always kind. The one time he is threatening, when Harry can see the shadow of the wolf in him, is when he is beside himself with guilt and terror at the thought of having inflicted himself and illness on Tonks and his unborn child, when his self hatred and doubt are so overwhelming that it lashes out at someone other than himself.

Remus goes out of his way to make others feel safe, because he rarely feels that way himself.
