QUICK DO YOU HAVE ANY HCS ABOUT REMUS RAISING HARRY ALONE WHILE PADFOOT IS IN AZKABAN ???????

wolfstarhq:

Ahhhhhhh! Honestly, I don’t think Remus would have raised Harry alone without Sirius. However, if it did happen…

-Remus brings Harry to live with his father in Wales. Since he’s got Harry to look after, he is able to stay more grounded. He can’t stress out about how shitty his life is, because Harry needs him to remain focused.

-Since Dumbledore can’t convince Remus to give Harry up to the Dursleys, he makes more of an effort to find research and editing work for Remus, work that he can do from home without being beholden to the moon. People are more than willing to hire the guardian of the Boy Who Lived.

-Remus makes sure Harry knows all the quidditch stats and takes him to games. Harry’s pyjamas have snitches on them. Remus dgaf about the sport personally, but he wants Harry to have a connection with his dad.

-Similarly, he buys Harry a child’s potions kit one birthday. He pretends not to be amused when the Weasley twins explode it during a visit, but once he and Harry are alone, he explodes a few more items in the garden, just for funsies, and tells Harry about the time his mum exploded one of James’ potions in class and Sirius got the blame.

-He doesn’t mention Sirius by name though. He just says “another student.” He never mentions Sirius by name.

-Lyall is That Grandpa who gives Harry sweets for breakfast and lets him stay up til 2am on a Wednesday.

-There are pictures of Lily and James everywhere in the house. There are no pictures of Sirius. Those are in a box under Remus’ bed.

-When Harry finds the box and tries to open it at age seven, it’s the first time Remus ever raises his voice at him.

-Remus apologises immediately after, scooping Harry up into his arms and walking him down the road the the local muggle ice cream shop.

-Harry searches for the box a few times after that, but never finds it.

-Remus takes Harry to the Dursley house every Boxing Day for an awkward brunch. Petunia is able to maintain her best behavior since it’s only a once-a-year thing. Harry and Dudley aren’t friendly, exactly, but they are able to sit on opposite ends of the room and ignore each other for one day to appease the adults.

-McG visits during the summers quite frequently. She pops in to help Remus with Harry’s pre-Hogwarts curriculum, but stays for tea and quidditch chat.

-One day while picking Harry up from a visit to the Weasley’s, Remus notices for the first time that one of the kids has a pet rat. Strange, really… he almost looks familiar…
