I’m pretty sure this was intentional. Ron had a lot of the same insecurities and fears as Peter, but at the end of the day, he didn’t abandon and betray all of his friends, he worked through them and showed the hell up. Connecting Peter to Ron through his rat like, emphasizes the point that Ron is NOT Peter.

i agree it was probably intentional. they are the less brillant, not good enough friends, the ones people paid no intention to.

and in the end, they both faced a choice ( selling james and lily to voldemort and leaving the horcrux hunt ). they could choose between their fears, or loyalty and bravery, and only one of them did the right choice.

in fact, i wouldnt be surprised it ron did think of peter when he choose to come back
