question : do you guys think peter would be more represented/appreciated in the fandom if he was described as attractive ?
( there’s no good or bad answer and i won’t jump at your throat if you disagree with me. please let’s not turn this into a fight )
I want to say yes, but then again, Snape is described as being fairly unattractive and he’s one of the most popular romantic partners in fic so… who knows. Fandom is an odd place.
great point.
Physical attractiveness isn’t it, or we’d see Lockhart in fics as something more than comic relief. But it is about attractiveness, I think. Specifically about confidence and intelligence. Peter is smarter than he was given credit for, but he has no confidence. He’s pathetic. Snape is attractive because he’s smug about his intelligence, and in the movies you don’t see much of the low self esteem he exhibits in the books.
another interesting point of view !
i agree about the confidence thing! also peter is described as fat, and fat characters are often sadly not given the love they deserve. but, while snape is utter trash, i think jkr did actually try to give him redemption, and not so much for peter. plus snape has that whole “tall, dark, mysterious, tragic antihero” thing that people love to stan
true ( see : dudley dursley )
but peter was given a kind of redemption in the end ? not anything big, but he did die by refusing to kill harry
that’s true! i was thinking about that when i wrote it, the whole “silver hand” thing was a redemption of sorts. i think jkr just believes that snape was ultimately a hero, and im not sure but she probably sees peter as more of a villain
