I don’t get why the fandom loves James and Lily so much. They were dead when the books started and we only know them from one(?) flashback and what others say about them, but we don’t KNOW them. I don’t know how people can like someone we’ve never really met.

And don’t forget they both threated Severus as shit so I can’t forgive them for that. I just can’t okay.

Lily was nicer to snape than he deserved. She wasnt the one hanging out with the wizard klan and calling him racial slurs because she got her ego bruised.

Not trying to defend Snape but his family came from the wizard Klan and that’s a hard mentality to escape from Lily was that escape. But I will admit he had the whole Best friend stuck in the Friend Zone mentality too and everybody says and does horrible things when those feelings get rejected. Especially when Snape’s only love interest chooses his constant bully over him before calling her racial slurs. That’s a “mind fuck, within a mind fuck". And then his only friend after that was master of secrets and low key homosexual to the reader- Albus Dumbledore that told him to watch over the living Dichotomy of his love and hate – Harry J. Potter – with his mother’s eyes and his father’s face and defiant nature. All the while playing spy for Dumbledore within the Death Eaters. So imagine being friends with a little German Jewish girl (since apparently they suffered more than Black people still do) as a little Christian German boy in post WWI only to grow up hearing Hitler’s rants and speeches but ignoring them for the sake of your friendship with the little Jewish girl before WWII breaks out, she’s always in your corner and defends you from that big jerk Bruno (I just thought it was a Euro-centric name) that always pushes you around with his little possey (not pro-Nazi’s though). And then when the chips fall and the Nazi political party does start gaining ground you call your childhood bestie out of her name with one of the nastiest anti-jewish slurs in the book because she chooses Bruno all because she saw his softer side. So with your resentment for the only person that kept you in the light you run right up to the military recruitment office and get your red swastika armband because “life is cruel and no on will ever love you” is your current head space. Only for your other secret friend to ask you to spy on the enemy from within when you think about leaving. All right around the time your childhood bestie – the little Jewish girl and Bruno “the jerk with a hidden heart of gold” both end up dead with a son that’s become your life’s mission to protect. And this kid, he hates you because you can never tell anyone the truth due to the shame you carry around every day and you can’t help but resent him because outside of bullying someone he acts almost just like his father whom you never resolved things with so those feelings weigh you down like an anchor.

Did you just ask me to sympathize with the hitler youth in this scenario?

Also, we have no evidence Eileen, snapes mother, was a death eater. Snape hung out with death eaters out of his own choice, and after Lily had told him how scared that made her.

snape didn’t insult lily because she liked james.
the memory takes place in 5th year and they started dating in 7th year.
the reason snape insulted lily was because she told james to stop his bullying and he decided being helped by a muggleborn girl was shameful so he called her a mudblood.

her eventual liking of james had nothing to do with it.
