-In first year, James Potter called Remus Lupin a traitor for siding with Sirius in an argument. Remus laughed, shook his head, and told James he was pouting like a two year old.
-In second year, Sirius called Remus a traitor for telling Professor McGonagall that he had had nothing to do with a prank. He had, in fact, had everything to do with it. Remus merely laughed and clapped him on the shoulder.
-In third year, James, Peter, and Sirius all called him a traitor for acting as a secret double agent during the Great Prank War between the marauders and the third year girls. Remus had laughed himself sick, then promptly switched sides to make up for his treachery.
-In fourth year, Peter called Remus a traitor for helping James and Sirius prank him. Remus had apologized, and all four of them had laughed.
-In fifth year, James called Remus a traitor for frankly telling him that Lily Evans was not interested in him. Remus had called him an impossibly stuck-up git, and they had laughed because it was true.
-In sixth year, James and Peter called both Sirius and Remus traitors when the former walked in on the later snogging in a broom cupboard. Remus had asked what James and Peter were looking in the broom cupboard for, anyways, and they laughed.
-In seventh year, Sirius called Remus a traitor for calling James and Lily the school’s cutest couple. Remus had kissed him and laughed.
-The Order jokingly referred to Remus as ‘the traitor’, partially because he was living as a spy among werewolves, and partially because of the Marauders constantly accusing him of being a traitor or everything from stealing their socks to refusing to share his chocolate.
-Except Remus knew when it stopped being a joke.
-Remus knew when the smiles became forced.
-Remus knew when the casual touches became not-so-casual.
-Remus knew that they thought he had betrayed them.
-And he did not laugh.
