Okay so I have this headcanon that Draco used to be this sweet little kid who spent all his time with Dobby because he hated all the other pureblooded kids. And he knew Dobby wanted to be free so one day Lucius caught Draco trying to get Dobby to take a sock (but Dobby was hesitating, because he was worried about what would happen to little master) and that was the first of many times that he raised his wand to his son. And for years, Draco grew to be more and more what his father wanted him to be in public, but in private Dobby was his sanctuary. And when he started school, he told Dobby all about Harry Potter and how he wanted to be his friend (or something more, but this is an all ships accepted blog, so imagine it however you like) and how he wished he could be himself with Harry but Lucius was ALWAYS watching. And he told Dobby how much Harry’s rejection hurt. And when he figured out his father had something AWFUL planned, he sent Dobby to warn Harry (who of course took it a tad far). Later that year, when Harry freed Dobby, Draco’s father assumed he had something to do with it and moved from amplified stinging hexes to the cruciatus curse as punishment. With his father crueler than ever and his confidante gone, the lines between Draco’s public and private personas started to blur more and more, and the only link between them was Harry Potter, always Harry Potter, but Draco didn’t know which side would win.
