Why do you not like JK Rowling just because she didn’t make everyone gay? It’s healthy to take things in small doses, after all.

okay dear anon, thanks for giving me an excuse for rambling about this topic !

first of all i would like to make clear that i do not hate jk rowling. she had created associations and uses the social medias to defend important causes. and of course she wrote this fabulous books that i adore and devote my life and blog to. i admire her talent and respect her for these things.

however, i am indeed resentful that not of her characters where queer. bc it is not that “she didn’t make everyone gay”, it’s that she made no one gay. and please do not objectify that dumbledore was gay bc it was never specified in the books, and no gay love stories was pictured. there is no openly queer character in harry potter and this is exactly what people like me and other bloggers are bitter about.

i unfortunately haven’t been able to find this interview ( anyone who has it please please send me a link ) but jk rowling did specify that she wanted dean thomas and seamus finnigan, two male characters, to end up together but didn’t make it canon bc she was afraid of the bad reactions from the public. which is a proof she deliberatly didn’t put any openly gay/bi/pan… characters in her work.

queer people exists, dear anon, and so do POC and disabled people : it is important to represent them. not only because it literally saves lives, but also bc of realism. i believe one english person out of ten is gay, and i haven’t checked the stats for bi, pan, trans… but you can see there are far more queer people in the world than tv shows, books and movies show you. it is realistic to represent them.

and about your “it is healthy to take things in small amount after all” : fair enough, not everyone is addict to queer relationships. but we aren’t talking about a small amount of queerness here but about a complete absence of queer characters. and if we take things in small amount, why wouldn’t it be the same for straight characters and relationships ?

dear anon, i don’t want to fight. i truely respect jk rowling, and you. if my answer didn’t satisfy you, feel free to send more asks or message me to continue this conversation.

and anyone who want to add something to this answer : please reblog and add it, i would love to hear your arguments.
