If you found people in your Mirror of Erised image, would you be able to talk to them?

( hello it’s the nerd again ) no you can’t, it’s specified in the books that james and lily remain silent when harry see them.

Is it specified at all whether he tried to talk to them? Because I know in the movie it doesn’t show that, but if one did try to talk to it, I wonder if they would respond, sort of like the paintings, but tailored to you.

Maybe they don’t talk because Harry doesn’t know what they sounded like, he has seen picture so he knows how they would look but doesn’t know how they would sound. He knows what he desires to see not what he desires to hear.

That sounds like it would make perfect sense, actually.
