If you found people in your Mirror of Erised image, would you be able to talk to them?

( hello it’s the nerd again ) no you can’t, it’s specified in the books that james and lily remain silent when harry see them.

Is it specified at all whether he tried to talk to them? Because I know in the movie it doesn’t show that, but if one did try to talk to it, I wonder if they would respond, sort of like the paintings, but tailored to you.

i think he does at first ? something like “who are you ?” or similar.
plus paintings are different : they are an imperfect copy of their subject who were taught to behave like them ( like in tcc with dumbledore’s ) and the mirror is more like… it shows a perfect version of them, and i think it would take too much magic to make them real beings with a soul, you see ?
