“Why are you so nervous anyway, Pads? It’s not like you’ve never met Moony’s parents before.” James laughed, utterly bemused at his friend who was frantically hopping on one foot as he squeezed himself into the third pair of skinny jeans in the last twenty minutes.

Sirius groaned in annoyance and flopped backwards onto the bed. “That’s not the point, James.” He raised his hips up and tried to yank the pants up. “Help me, will you?”

James sighed and stood in front of the bed, studying the other man for a moment before taking a hold of the waist of his jeans and trying to shimmy them up his friend’s thighs. “Why don’t you own a pair of jeans that fit, you wanker?” He grunted as the skin tight fabric finally inched its way to where it belonged.

Sirius, still lying on the bed, buttoned his trousers and bounced off the bed. “They do fit, Jim. That’s how they’re suppose to be.” He crossed the bedroom of his new flat to look in the mirror and checked himself out. “What do you think?”

“I think it’s a miracle you’ve got any circulation wearing those.” James said flatly. Sirius flipped a finger up at him and he rolled his eyes. “You look fine, Sirius. You’ve looked fine in the last three outfits you’ve tried on. Merlin, you’re only going to Remus’ parents’ for tea. It’s not like you’re proposing.” His eyes went wide. “Wait, you’re not proposing, are you?”

“No, Prongs. I am not proposing.” Sirius mocked. “And yes, I’ve met Remus’ parents plenty of times…At the platform or when they’d drop him by yours during the summer for a week…I’ve met them as one of Remus’ school mates. But I’ve never met them as…you know…”

“As Remus’ boyfriend?” James offered.

“Exactly.” Sirius bit his lip. “And you know I’m not really great with parents to begin with.”

“Bullshit,” James grinned. “My parents love you. They probably love you more than they love me.” He faked a high, womanly voice “’Oh Jamie, why can’t you help out around the house like Sirius?’ ‘Sirius keeps his room tidy!’ ‘Maybe Sirius can teach you to tame that hair of yous!’”

Sirius blushed a little and punched his arm. “That’s different. Your parents took me in. I just tried to be as little trouble as possible to repay them. This is a totally different situation.”

“I should certainly hope so,” James teased. “You’re not shagging me.”

“Jealous?” Sirius flashed a grin.

“Not even a little. I love you Sirius, I do. But I’ll leave the rest to Moony.”

Sirius pulled up in front of The Lupin’s Cottage and immediately wished he had apparated instead of flying his bike. He was fairly sure that boys who rode motorbikes and wore leather jackets and tight jeans were not any parents’ ideal version of a partner for their child. But he supposed it was too late for that. Trust him to think after acting as usual.

He stood on the front lawn for at least ten minutes, imagining every horrible way this meeting could go. He was fairly sure Remus hadn’t even told his parents he was gay. He swallowed. This was a mistake.

The sound of the front screen door opening and slamming shut was the only thing to pull him from his mild panic attack, and suddenly he found himself with his arms full of Remus Lupin, and soft familiar lips covering his own.

After an all to brief moment of desperate, hungry kisses, Remus pulled back and pressed their foreheads together.

“Missed you.” He said softly, fingers playing with the ends of Sirius’ silky hair.

 “Missed you, too.”

It had only been a week since school had ended, and Remus had only just been helping Sirius move into his flat several days after that, but a week was long enough in both of their opinions and it may as well have been a year.

“So…” The taller boy bit his lip nervously. “Are you ready?”

Sirius took a deep breath in and let it out slowly. He gently took his boyfriend’s hand in his own, lacing their fingers together. “If you’re ready, I’m ready.”

Remus nodded. “Yeah…I mean…I’m already a werewolf and they’ve handled that rather well all things considered…so….a gay werewolf shouldn’t be an issue, right?”

They both turned and faced the house. They didn’t move.

“…We could just run off and elope.” Muttered Remus suddenly.

“You love your parents. You wouldn’t hurt them like that.”

“They wouldn’t need to know. I could obliviate them. They’d never know the difference.” His tone was only half joking. He sighed. “Alright, I’m ready.”

They entered the house slowly.

The cottage was small. Much smaller than Grimmuald Place or The Potter’s estate. But it was warm, and everything smelled like Remus. It made Sirius’ stomach feel like he had swallowed twenty fizzing whizbies at once.

The walked through the sitting room, photos of Remus at all different ages were hung on the walls and Sirius spotted one framed picture of Remus, James, Peter and himself, probably around fifth year.

When they crossed into the kitchen, Remus’ parents were both sitting at the table. Mr. Lupin was reading The Prophet while his wife was fixing the tea. They both looked up when they heard the boys enter.

Remus cleared his throat. “Mum, Dad….You remember Sirius, don’t you? My…my boyfriend.”

They both held their breath in the agonizing seconds after. Their hands still tightly together between them. United. No matter what the outcome.

Then Hope Lupin was swooping in on them, kissing both of Sirius’ cheeks with an enormous smile. Remus’ smile. “Of course, Sirius! How are you, dear? Come sit, I’ve just finished with the tea.”

They both exhaled at the same time.

Lyall Lupin stood and shook Sirius’ hand. “Congratulations, Sirius. I heard you graduated with nearly perfect marks. Been accepted into the Auror Academy as well. Good for you, you must be excited.”

Sirius felt his cheeks heat up as he took a seat beside Remus at the table. “Yes. Thank you, Sir.” He nodded to the boy beside him. “Honestly though, if Remus hadn’t been there to kick my arse into getting my homework done, I wouldn’t have done nearly as well.”

Out of the corner of his eye he saw Remus hiding a smile behind his hand, the tips of his ears turning pink.

The evening went without a hitch. It was almost too perfect, both boys believing at one point or another that it was all just a dream and that they would wake up and find themselves in a much more difficult situation. But it wasn’t. It was real.

Towards the end of the night, Remus finally voiced his concern.

“So, you’re really alright with this?” He said to his parents. “With Sirius and I…”

Hope smiled softly at her son. “Remus, dear…We want you to be happy. You’ve been through so much, sweetheart. If you’ve found somebody that loves you and sees you for the wonderful person you are, the way your father and I see you, then of course we’re okay with whoever it is. And Sirius, you’ve done so much for Remus already. We can’t thank you enough.”

Sirius shook his head. “You really don’t have to thank me. Remus has done just as much for me as I have for him…maybe even more, and I was far less deserving of it…I love him more than I ever thought I was capable of loving another person…and I’d like…I mean….if you want to, Moony…I’d like you to move in with me.”

Remus looked surprised for a moment. “I…Sirius, I can’t help pay the rent or, or…”

“The rent’s paid off for the next two years, already.” Sirius shrugged it off. “Enough with what you can and can’t afford. We can afford it.”

Remus looked at his parents, who seemed to be smiling in approval, and back to his boyfriend. He sighed. “Well I suppose if I don’t you’ll end up living off candy and take out. Someone’s got to make sure you still fit into those jeans.”
